Help Your Child Learn To Read
Read Aloud to your child every day.
To start out, use board books without words or with just a few words. Point to the colors and the pictures and say their names. Simple books can teach your child things that will later help him/her learn to read.
Tell stories. Encourage your child to ask questions and talk about the story. Ask him/her to predict what will happen next. Point to things in the books that he/she can relate to in his/her life.
Look for reading programs.
Buy a children's dictionary. Look for one with pictures next to the words. Then start the "let's look it up" habit.
Watch educational TV and Videos. This will help your child learn the alphabet and the sounds the letters make.
Visit the library often. Begin making weekly trips when your child is young.
Read yourself. What you do sets an example for your child.

Story Times Guidelines
In order for us to have enjoyable and productive Story Times and to provide a positive learning experience for reach child, we need your help in several areas. Please be on time. Late arrivals are distracting to small children.
Please take your child to the bathroom before the program begins. Children at this age are copycats and if one goes they all want to go.
Children become upset at times and may need to be taken from the program.
Story Times are broken into three different age groups. Please bring your child to the designated group.
